Facebook fans vs Kids

Facebook fans vs Kids

[First published here]

We wonder sometimes what is the best way to engage Facebook fans (or any other users of social media platforms). When to post, when to comment, when to create an activity… etc

It actually dawned on us that fans are like Kids….! Think about it : They are unpredictable, playful and difficult to please.

Like Kids, they need your full attention at every moment. The younger they are, the more responsive you need to be and when they are not happy, they voice it out! As a brand, it means you need to prepare a proper activity planning based on a regular basis before you launch your Social Group. It means you need to spend more time at the beginning with the group before they can engage each others themselves.

Like kids, they need games, activities and of different kinds. For a brand, a contest that works means you cannot re-use the same contest next month. You need to have a proper list of activity to engage your audience regularly. It has to have enough variety to capture their attention.

Like kids, they have a very short attention spam. Not only they get bored easily and becomes grumpy, they will always need more attention. Same goes for the Facebook fans and any other social media communities. As a brand, you need to have a proper community manager to handle your fans, to interact with them on a regular basis and have a mechanism in place to handle some difficult situations (if any).

When kids become teenagers, it brings along a different set of worries….but this is for another time.

In the meantime, before they grow up, there are lots to do to entertain them. So, good luck…:=)
